Julia and Frank brought two sensibilities to the same room. Hers is an interior designer's eye, neutral, textural, quietly composed. His runs sharper and more cinematic, black tie and a low-lit, after-dark cool. They took the cue from the coast and kept it modern and textural throughout: white callas and beach grass running low down tables dressed in pooled satin, fabric and grass repeated as texture. A pianist played Rat Pack through cocktail hour while a martini tower and oysters shucked to order gave the night its rhythm. It ended where the best nights do, black tie loosened, cigars lit, the floor full and the music still going.
